Following the news that director Sam Mendes would, likely, be returning to the Bond series despite past trepidations, Yahoo! Movies UK has now reported that Academy Award winner Penelope Cruz has been courted to play the new Bond girl in the upcoming Bond 24.
As Cruz turns 40 next year, she will officially become the oldest Bond girl to date. But, quite frankly, I doubt many will care. Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have, reportedly, tried to get Cruz before, but have been unsuccessful due to scheduling conflicts. It’s not hard to see why, as Cruz seems like a great choice. At least on paper.
We’ll have to see the results when Bond 24 hits theaters, hopefully, sometime next year or the year after that. So far, things are starting to shape up well.
