Given the amount of films being produced based on comic book characters these days, it seems kind-of inevitable that Archie would eventually get his own movie too. But, apparently, Warner Bros., the studio whose gearing the movie into production, will be adding an unusual guest to the gang.
Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) is set to direct the film, based on a script by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (the upcoming Carrie remake). Not too long ago, Aguirre-Sacasa signed on to write a horror-influenced addition of Archie, titled Afterlife with Archie, which is set to come out sometime this year. The book is about Archie and the gang dealing with the zombie apocalypse, which Jughead, somehow, started.
While plot details have not be released at this time, Deadline believes that Aguirre-Sacasa’s hiring means that zombies will be included into the film.
Aguirre-Sacasa, in addition to the upcoming book and film, has also written a play about Archie in 2003, Archie’s Weird Fantasy, which imagined all the characters grown up. However, the play had to be reworked as Weird Comic Book Fantasy when Archie Comics issued a cease-and-desist letter. The writer also wrote the crossover mini-series comic book, Archie Meets Glee.
This film will not be the first time Archie has appeared in live-action form, as he has already been featured in an early ’70s TV special and a 1990 TV movie.
