There are some big rumors coming out of the San Diego Comic-Con today.
Just as they are about to get ready for their panel today, LA Times has been spreading the news that the company is set to officially release their Batman/Superman crossover movie for 2015.
The Batman/Superman project has been one of contention for a number of years, going back to at least 2006 when Brandon Routh was starring as The Man of Tomorrow and Christian Bale was the Caped Crusader. Of course, nothing came about of that project, save for a little tease at the beginning of I Am Legend.
In case you forgot.
The decision to continue with this project again comes from the recent success of the new rendition of Superman in Man of Steel. This film is set to act as the continuation of that story, while also introducing the world to a new Batman that will be featured in the Justice League. Christian Bale is not expected to be the name announced to play Batman in the movie. The title of the new movie is supposed to be World’s Finest.
Henry Cavill is set to reprise his role as Superman, while David S. Goyer is supposed to be returning as screenwriter. Zack Snyder is also supposed to be the director of the project.
Speaking of Justice League, they’re are also rumors that Comic-Con today will be where Warner Bros. will announce the release of a Justice League movie for 2017. They, of course, have been trying to get the movie made for the past year or so following the success of The Avengers, but haven’t been able to find a director or script that they are satisfied with, reportedly.
But before that can happen, there is also one other big rumor going about right now that, before they make their Justice League movie, they are going to make a Flash origin story in 2016. Both the Batman/Superman movie and The Flash film are supposed to be tie-in films to lead the way for the Justice League project.
None of this has officially been confirmed. However, we should find out soon enough when Warner Bros. hosts their panel this afternoon. Clearly, D.C. is just taking the approach that Marvel used to find success with The Avengers, but, I guess, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Although, I must say, why no Wonder Woman movie in 2016? C’mon now, D.C., just make the movie already. Also, is Ryan Reynolds playing Green Lantern again?
Update: At Comic-Con today, Zack Synder came up and made the official announcement that the next Superman movie would involve Batman and Superman together. The movie is said to be inspired by Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, however, it will not be based on the graphic novel. Also set to star in the movie are Man of Steel stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Harry Lennix and Dianne Lane. Christopher Nolan will executive produce this project. News of The Flash movie and the Justice League movie, however, were not confirmed.
