Do you hear that kids?
It’s the sound of Hollywood trying to make another young adult book-to-movie series craze. This time, it’s Artemis Fowl, Eoin Colfer’s eight book series.
Disney has been trying to get a movie in the works since Miramax bought the rights back in 2001. Despite having a falling out back in 2005 regarding the Miramax studio, it appears that studio head Harvey Weinstein and the Mouse House are going to get back together to make the project a reality.
Robert De Niro and Jane Rosennthal will be executive producers on the project, while Michael Goldenberg (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) will be writing the script.
Described as “Die Hard with fairies,” the Artemis Fowl series follows a 12-year-old criminal mastermind who kidnaps a fairy in order to gain its powers to save his family. It’s one of those books that I have had on my shelf for years, but never actually got around to reading. I’ve heard it’s pretty good. We’ll have to see when the movie hits theaters.
