Great First Trailer for Ben Stiller’s ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’

By Will Ashton

The best surprise I got this Sunday when I saw The Wolverine, besides the fact that The Wolverine was actually a good movie, was this trailer for The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Starring and directed by Ben Stiller, this re-adaptation of the 1939 short story by James Thurber has Stiller playing the titular character, who, after years of daydreaming, decides to go on an adventure of his own. The movie got some Oscar buzz when the first footage for the film premiered at Cinema Con, and based on this trailer, it’s not hard to see why.

Stiller looks like he made a gorgeous little movie here. He has already proven himself a competent director with films like Tropic Thunder and Zoolander. But the film seems to have a sweet, quirky tone that’s unlike any movie he’s made or starred in before, besides maybe The Royal Tenenbaums.

It easily looks like his most mature and restrained film yet. Encompassed by Of Monsters and Men’s “Dirty Paws,” this trailer has elevated this movie as one of my most anticipated for the rest of the year.
