Fans have been waiting at least four years to see Avatar 2 come to the big screen. But it seems like the wait for the next segments will not be as long.
It has been no secret that Fox and James Cameron have been planning not one, but three sequels to the extremely successful Avatar. But today, it was revealed that the films will be taking a Peter Jackson-approach and will be filmed all-at-once.
The films are being planned to be released for the Decembers of 2016, 2017 and 2018. In June 2012, actress Sigourney Weaver said that the films would be shooting back-to-back, and it appears her prediction wasn’t inaccurate.
Additionally, it was revealed yesterday that James Cameron was bringing in Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles) to help write Avatar 2. Now, Deadline is also revealing that Cameron will also have Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) writing the third film and Shane Salerno (Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem) writing the fourth. Which, I believe, is a good thing.
Cameron’s biggest weakest has always been his screenwriting, particularly his dialogue. So I’m glad that he is dying down his ego a little bit to allow some other writers to pick up the slack. Or, perhaps he’s just too busy and wanted someone else to do the work. Either way.
