The Bourne Legacy wasn’t the most well-liked film in the Bourne series, but it made a decent amount of money at the box office. Because of this, the Bourne series will continue, with Jeremy Renner returning as the lead.
Deadline reports that Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes) will be writing the script that returns to Aaron Cross, Renner’s character, as the lead. There were once rumors that Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) would return to the series to join forces with Aaron Cross, but now it seems pretty unlikely that Damon will be returning, at least as a lead.
There is also no director at this point. Tony Gilroy, who wrote/co-wrote all the films so far and directed The Bourne Legacy, is not set to return, at least at this time. It was definitely the weakest in the series, but I did rather enjoy The Bourne Legacy (the lab scene was great). But I’m not too sure that Aaron Cross can continue the series the same way that Jason Bourne did. We’ll have to see.
