It happened once in 2006, then it happened again in 2010. Now, the 66th Annual Emmy Awards will be moving its 2014 air date from September to August, in order to avoid conflict with NBC’s Sunday Night Football.
The Hollywood Reporter were the ones that got the scoop. Keep in mind, this is for the 2014 Emmys, and not this year’s ceremony. This year’s Emmy awards are still expected to be aired on September 22 on CBS.
NBC, CBS and ABC have all kept the Emmy Awards around September since 2002. Since both the Emmys and Sunday Night Football are major rating draws for NBC, it’s in their best interest that they keep the two separated.
There’s no official date at this time as to when in August the 2014 Emmy Award ceremony will air, just that it has been moved from its regular September airing date. A unnamed source for the THR, however, seems to believe that the show will air on August 24. This has not been confirmed.
