While his famous best friend Ben Affleck continues to be the talk of the town with his casting as Batman in Man of Steel 2 (or whatever it’s called), Matt Damon joins the previous helmer of the Batman series in his next directorial effort, Interstellar.
The Playlist reports that Damon has joined the project, which has been shooting for the past couple weeks. His role will only involve him for a couple weeks, they report. But, in the meantime, he’s following his best friend’s footsteps one step further, as he is setting up his directorial debut, A Murder Foretold.
Based on a script by Argo’s Chris Terrio (see?….) from a 2008 New Yorker article by David Grann, the film will tell the story of a man murdered in Guatemala, who implicated the Guatemalan president in the killing through a video tape.
Damon once tried to direct before, as he was set to direct Promised Land, a film he co-wrote and starred in, a couple years ago. He ultimately had to drop out as a director due to scheduling commitments and for personal reasons.
Damon was recently rumored to be rejoining the Bourne series alongside director Paul Greengrass, but today’s news stories seem to imply that that will not be happening.
Interstellar is set to be released on November 7, 2014. Damon can be seen in theaters now in Elysium, and will next be seen later this year in Terry Gilliam’s The Zero Theorem and George Clooney’s The Monuments Men.
