Director Derek Cianfrance has already directed two of the best films of the new decade with Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond the Pines. While I can’t say for sure that his next film will be in the same ranks, it has been revealed today that Cianfrance has signed on to direct the adaptation of M.L. Stedman’s The Light Between Oceans for DreamWorks.
Variety was the one the first reported the news. The property for the book was bought by DreamWorks last week, and has David Heyman (Harry Potter series) and Jeffrey Clifford producing. There’s no word if Cianfrance is writing the script or when the film is set to shoot or be released.
The book seems to be centered on characters’ tragedies and their struggles with them. This is something that Cianfrance has already excelled at already, so he seems like a good choice for the film.
