He’s played Magneto, and he’s played Gandalf. Now, he’s set to play Sherlock Holmes, albeit not at the top of his game, in Bill Condon’s A Slight Trick of the Mind.
An announcement for the film was made by Icon/AI Films, which states that the film will be shooting next April in the U.K. The movie will be based on a novel by Mitch Cullen centered on a retired Sherlock Holmes. Jeffrey Hatcher will be writing the script.
This will be the second time Condon and McKellen worked together, as they both collaborated on Gods and Monsters back in 1998.
Condon’s The Fifth Estate is set to premiere today at the Tornoto International Film Festival. It will be released in theaters on October 18. McKellen will next been seen as Gandalf this December in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
