Despite the fact that director Roland Emmerich has said that Will Smith will not be returning for Independence Day 2, it has been revealed that Smith is now in talks to star in the film.
Emmerich revealed in an interview with Digital Spy that he was having a meeting set up with Smith to discuss the project.
Both Smith and Emmerich are not having the best years, at least at the box office, as both their films, After Earth and White House Down, failed to take off at the box office.
Smith would be joining Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum, who both has agreed to return for the sequel. Emmerich said earlier this summer that Smith was “too expensive and too famous” to star in the sequel, but apparently something has changed.
Additionally, while the film was set to be released on July 3, 2015, the film could get pushed back to 2016. Should it come out on in 2016, it would mark the twentieth anniversary of the original film.
