Truth be told, I have not read a single page of any Goosebumps novel. So, if there is a character in there that would be suitable for Jack Black, let me know. Because the star is now in talks to star in a film adaptation of the Goosebumps series.
Director Rob Letterman (Gulliver’s Travels) has been working on Sony and Scholastic Media’s production of R.L. Stine’s books for the past couple months. Now, The Wrap reports that Black has joined negotiations to be the first actor signed onto the picture. He is to star as a “Stine-like author whose scary characters literally leap off the page, forcing him to hide from his own creepy creations.”
So, it’s going to be like Naked Lunch for kids? How delightful.
Considered the “Stephen King of children’s literature,” Stine’s books have grown to become the second-most successful children’s book series of all-time, behind Harry Potter. The series has already been adapted into video games and a TV series.
This will be the second time the actor and director will be working with one another, as they both previously worked on the aforementioned Gulliver’s Travels.
