In what very well be the one and only time I talk about ESPN on this blog, it has just been revealed that director Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond the Pines) has signed on to helm a movie based on the book ESPN: Those Guys Have All the Fun about the creation of ESPN.
The Wrap reports the news on the adaptation of James Andrew Miller and Tom Shales’ book, which will be under the Focus Features banner. Originally, 20th Century Fox was supposed to make the film, but they decided to back out. Producing the film will be Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti. At this time, there is no screenwriter set for the project.
In addition to this, Cianfrance signed on to direct The Light Between Oceans for DreamWorks. Not sure how that project falls in connection to this film, but, we’ll have to see. Considering there is no screenwriter for the project, he may just decide to make the other film first, then come back to make this.
