It appears that another part of my childhood is coming to the big screen, as directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris (Little Miss Sunshine, Ruby Sparks) are making an adaptation of the book, I’m Proud of You, which recounts author Tim Madigan’s close friendship with Mr. Rogers.
The Wrap broke the news on the film, which is being written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster.
In 1995, Madigan was assigned a newspaper profile on the TV persona, and, through their interactions, became close friends with him until his death in 2003. The book portrays Mr. Rogers as being even nicer off-screen than he was on.
This certainly sounds like an interesting project, but casting is key. Who would play Mr. Rogers? I would say Ty Burrell, but there are a number of different options.
