Last week, it was revealed that the long-gestured John Belushi biopic was picking up speed again when screenwriter Steve Conrad also became the film’s director. Among the shortlist for playing the iconic comedic actor were Joaquin Phoenix, Adam Devine (Workaholics) and Emilie Hirsch.
Now, it has been revealed that Hirsch has been cast in the part.
Variety has the scoop on the story. The film will be based on the biography Belushi, written by Judy Belushi Pisano and Tanner Colby.
Hirsch may not have been who I expected to play the role, but he’s a great young actor so I’m sure he’ll do wonders with the part. Of the three, I feel like Phoenix would have given the best performance, but everyone involved seemed to know that getting him was a long shot.
In addition to my love of biopics, I’m very curious to see Belushi’s story on the screen. It’s certainly an interesting tale, and one that could go one way or the other. We’ll have to see how it turns out.
Hirsch will next been seen in Lone Survivor, which is set to have a limited release on December 27, 2013 and a wide one on January 10, 2014.
