Another odd couple will be making their way to the small screen, as Jack Black and Tim Robbins are set to in the comedy pilot The Brink for HBO. Jay Roach (Game Change) will be directing.
Variety reveals that the show will be centered on three “disparate and desperate men” facing the possibility of World War III. The dark comedy will have Robbins playing U.S. Secretary of State Walter Hollander, “a man of big appetites and little patience for the war mongers in the Situation Room and Black playing Alex Coppins, “a lowly Foreign Service officer reluctantly caught on the ground in the middle of it all.” The third lead, Zeke Callahan, top Navy fighter pilot, has not been cast.
In addition to staring in the show, the two actors will also be producing as well. Roberto Benabib (Weeds) and Kim Benabib have written the script. Benabib and Roach are also serving as producers. HBO ordered the show to pilot in September.
This will not be the first time Black and Robbins have worked together. Robbins directed Black in Bob Roberts, Dead Man Walking and Cradle Will Rock, and the two shared the screen together in High Fidelity. Robbins was also briefly seen in Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny.
Black will next be seen in Sex Tape, which is set to be released next year. Robbins was recently seen in Thanks for Sharing earlier this year and will be seen in Life of Crime and Welcome to Me next year.
